Menu Management
Control your restaurant's offerings with a comprehensive digital menu builder.
🍽️ Menu Dashboard
The Menu module allows you to organize items efficiently. Key core features include:
Organization & Navigation
- Tabs: Toggle between Menu Items (the dishes) and Categories (groups like Starters, Mains).
- Filter Tags: Quickly sort the view by clicking category buttons (e.g., 'STARTERS', 'TIFFENS').
- Add New: Use the purple "+ Add Menu Item" button (top right) to create a new dish.
Item Card Details
- Visuals: High-quality images for each dish to aid identification.
- Info: Displays the Name (e.g., DOSA), Category Badge, and a brief Description.
- Pricing: Clearly highlights the base price (e.g., $40.00) or variant pricing.
Status & Controls
- Availability: A green Available tag shows the item is currently in stock.
- Quick Actions: Bottom-right icons allow you to Edit (✏️) or Delete (🗑️) an item immediately.
✏️ Adding & Editing Items
Clicking "+ Add Menu Item" or the Edit pencil icon opens the modification modal. This single form handles both creating new dishes and updating existing ones:
- Core Details: Input the Item Name (e.g., DOSA), assign it to a Category (e.g., TIFFENS), and set the Base Price.
- Description: Add a mouth-watering description to inform customers about the dish's ingredients and taste.
- Visuals: Upload a high-resolution image locally or paste an image URL to make the menu visually appealing.
- Controls:
- Available Toggle: Instantly enable or disable the dish for ordering (useful for out-of-stock items).
- Linked Add-ons: Connect complementary items (e.g., Sambar, Chutney) for inventory tracking.
🕒 Tracking Item History
Switch to the History tab within the Edit Modal to view a complete audit trail of the menu item:
- Timeline Feed: Displays a vertical timeline of all modifications, with the most recent changes at the top.
- User Attribution: Shows the email address of the staff member who made the update (e.g., "sai@gmail.com") and their role (e.g., "admin").
- Change Logs: Clearly states the action taken, such as "UPDATE: Menu Item Updated", ensuring full accountability for price or description changes.
🗑️ Deleting an Item
To remove a dish from your menu, click the red Trash Icon on the item card. A safety confirmation popup will appear:
- Safeguard: The system asks "Are you sure you want to delete [Item Name]?" to prevent accidental clicks.
- Final Action: Clicking the red Delete button will permanently remove the item from the menu. This action cannot be undone.
- Cancel: If you changed your mind, simply click Cancel to keep the item.
📂 Managing Menu Categories
Click the Categories tab at the top to organize your menu sections:
- Overview: View all active categories (e.g., STARTERS, TIFFENS) as card tiles.
- Item Count: Each card displays the number of dishes linked to that category (e.g., "3 items"), helping you balance your menu size.
- Actions:
- + Add Category: Create a new group for your items.
- Edit/Delete: Use the icons on each card to rename categories or remove them if they are empty.
➕ Adding a New Category
Clicking the purple "+ Add Category" button opens a simple form to define a new section:
- Category Name: Enter a clear, short title (e.g., "Desserts", "Beverages") that will appear as a filter tag.
- Description: Optionally add details about what this category contains (e.g., "Sweet treats to end your meal").
- Create: Click Create to save the new category and make it available for linking menu items.
✏️ Editing Existing Categories
Click the Pencil Icon on any category card to open the Edit Category modal. This view contains two important tabs:
Details Tab
Update the Name or Description to reflect changes in your menu structure.
History Tab
View a log of all modifications made to this category. If no changes have been made yet, it will show "No history for this category".
- Live Updates: Changes made here (like fixing a typo in "STARTERS") are instantly reflected across the entire POS and Menu system.
- Audit Trail: Use the History tab to track who changed a category name or description and when.
⚠️ Deleting a Category
To remove an entire category, click the red Trash Icon on the category card. This action requires extra caution:
- Impact Warning: The popup explicitly warns: "This will affect all menu items in this category." Be sure you want to proceed.
- Confirmation: You must click the red Delete button to confirm the removal.
- Safe Exit: Click Cancel if you clicked the button by mistake.
